With 3D fast becoming the medium of creative choice, Sony placed high-end 3D production at the centre of its booth at the IFA Berlin. The “world’s largest trade fair for consumer electronics and home appliances” attracted close to quarter of a million visitors during the six days of the September show.

Sony’s press conference was filmed entirely in 3D and fed live to the world’s largest 3D LED screen. With clips from movies, games and sports events, plus live performances, the conference highlighted Sony’s ‘lens to the living room’ solution for 3D production.

Contracted by Free State to provide a wide range of technology to facilitate both the press conference and the live 3D events over the course of the exhibition, Presteigne Charter was delighted to be part of Sony’s state-of-the-art and highly popular booth experience.

Four Sony HDC-P1 HD compact 2/3” CCD HD cameras together with two Element Technica Quasar beam-splitter rigs provided the live 3D pictures to screens throughout the exhibition.

The rigs were mounted to a Panther Phantom Remote Head, Foxy Crane and Vinten Vector 750 Head and Base.

In the booth production area, two Sony LMD-4251TD 3D LCD monitors were utilized for programme/preview and two Sony LMD-2451TD 3D monitors for Stereography. At the heart of the set up, a Sony MVS8000x switcher was complemented by Sony RCP1500s, two Sony SRW-5800 VTRs and three Sony MPE-200 3D processors.

Routing, communications, racks, cabling and infrastructure was also supplied together with stereography and full technical support crew.

In its 50th year, the IFA hit the record books this year with 1423 exhibitors providing over 134,000 square metres of display space.
