The Monsoon Cup Malaysia is Stage 10 of the 2009 World Match Racing Tour. Presteigne Charter, commissioned by Red Handed TV, supplied all the wireless cameras for the final event of the Tour, sailed on the Pulau Duyong basin, in Kuala Terengganu in Malaysia.

Providing the wireless cameras on the chase boat, the shore and onboard the race boats, Presteigne Charter supplied SD RF links used in conjunction with three Sony EX1s, three PDW-530s, a PDW 700 and five HXE-MC1 camcorders. These could be received from anywhere on the water, on the shore around the venue and inside the venue for the opening and awards ceremonies. When not used as RF links, the camcorders were used as ENG cameras to pick up shots from all around the town.

On the audio side, Presteigne Charter also provided six high power radio microphone links that received the audio from the boats.

Presteigne Charter has been involved with the Monsoon Cup for the last two years, this year adding systems to enhance the coverage. By providing mast and bow onboard cameras, commentator helmet cameras and extra back packs with handheld camera systems, Presteigne Charter was instrumental in bringing viewers closer to the race action.

The Monsoon Cup is a technically challenging event, with the weather constantly changing between being very hot and very wet. In addition, onboard handheld cameras needed to be lightweight enough for cameramen to be able to move with ease from boat to boat between the races. To add to the challenge of the Monsoon Cup, Presteigne Charter also utilised the onboard mini cameras for the first time in this type of situation.

However, with 100% coverage in all desired locations, Presteigne Charter’s equipment, manpower and technical expertise all rose impressively to the occasion of one of the leading professional sailing events in the world.
