Presteigne Charter provided three major broadcasters, BBC, Network Seven (Australia) and TVNZ (New New Zealand) with a HD server solutions for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Through months of planning, Presteigne Charter supplied three individual HD server systems all tied to the Host Broadcasters logging service, giving our clients not only instant access to material ingested on their own systems, but access to the Host Broadcaster EVS Server. This allowed producers of each company to browse through nearly all the record material for the Games and utilise the material gathered in either post production packages or live on‐air.
- BBC United Kingdom – Presteigne Charter HD Server consisted of 20 EVS XT[2] Ingest HDDR with maximum storage and with six (6) EVS XT [2] On-Air HDDR. All Ingest feeds were able to be accessed through 19 EVS IP Directors and Archival was done with two (2) EVS XFS [2] (HD X-File). The system also boasted logging of the material from London & Beijing, a first for the industry, the data being stored on two (2) EVS SQL Data Base Managers in Beijing and the other in London with information shared between both locations. The system utilised both high-resolution (SDTI) & low resolution (Gigabyte) networks to ensure bandwidth stability.
- TVNZ New Zealand – One of the first broadcasters to utilise this system back in 2006 on the Commonwealth Games. The TVNZ Beijing system consisted of ten (10) EVS XT [2] Ingest HDDR with maximum storage and with two (2) EVS XT [2] On-Air HDDR with ten (10) EVS IP Directors. Tied to the system were two (2) HD AVID Suites & three (3) EVS X-Store [2] HD Clean Edit Systems utilised by TVNZ’s news department. Archive material was transferred to six (6) EVS XFS [2] HD X-File Units where X-File drives each containing 17HRs of HD storage were used.
- Seven Network Australia – In the words of the CEO of EVS Belgium (Mr. Pierre L’Hoest), the Seven Network HD Server was the most integrated system that he had ever seen utilised in the world. The Seven HD Server consisted of 22 EVS XT [2] Ingest HDDR with maximum storage, along with three (3) EVS XLS [2] and three (3) EVS XT [2] On-Air HDDR. The system was complemented by twenty four (24) EVS IP Directors utilised for both logging and browsing and also six (6) EVS IP Edit Suites & five (5) AVID HD Edit Suites all tied to the high resolution (SDTI) & low resolution (Gigabyte) networks.
Alongside the above Presteigne Charter also provided facilities utilising server technology for TVE Spain, NOS Netherlands and ORF Austria, NOS Netherlands.
- TVE (Spanish TV) – Presteigne Charter supplied the equipment, arranged the shipping and supplied onsite support for 45 MSW-M2000P, six (6) EVS XT-2, two (2) Ross 2.ME Vision Mixers, two (2) complete Avid Adrenaline edit suites c/w 16TB Avid Lanshare and a complete BVE-2000 Non linear edit suit.
- NOS (Netherlands TV) – NOS worked in SD with Presteigne Charter supplying a small IBC System. We pre built the system in the UK, organised the shipping and supplied a guarantee engineer. The system was built over a ten day period but was used for line testing and a limited amount of playouts during the period and consisted of 64 x 64 Leitch Video router, 32 x 32 Analogue audio router, 32 x 32 Telex CS Talkback system, “Glue” - Embedders / De-Embedders / monitoring, DDAs / DDA’s / ADAs Etc, CRT and LCD monitors, six (6) Airspeeds, four (4) various VTR’s, three (3) Complete Avid Newscutter edit suites complete with Unity system, V/O booths and various infrastructure consisting of speakers, WFM, audio monitoring and SPG.
- ORF (Austrian TV) – ORF worked in SD with Presteigne Charter supplying a full IBC System enabling ORF to produce a full programme presentation from Beijing. Pre built in the UK, Presteigne Charter organised the shipping and supplied a full crew of two video engineers, two audio engineers and an extra engineer for the rig period. ORF was the biggest system of the three. The engineers worked a shift pattern to cover the long days of 08:00 through until 24:00. The system was built on site over an eight day period with the edit suites being staggered online over the rig period.
The system comprised 128 x 128 Video MTX, a Kayak 2ME Vision Mixer, Yamaha M7CL, EVS XT-2, one (1) complete Avid Adrenalines complete with Lanshare and EVS Media manager, two (2) complete BVE Non linear edit suites, 16 MSW-M2000P VTR’s, VTR monitoring, 136 source production monitoring stack using eight (8) 37” Pure Technologies 1920 x 1080 LCD Screens and 20 way Zandar Predator II multiviewers, 12 52” monitoring plasmas using six (6) Zandar 4 way multiviewers, two (2) VO booths, 6ch RF system viewed on 28 TV’s, “Glue” Embedders / De-Embedders / DDA’s / Monitoring DDA’s / ADA’s / Arc’s / colour correctors / synchronisers etc and various infrastructures consisting of speakers, waveform monitors, audio monitoring and SPGs.
